These aircraft-grade steel cables secure your base plate to the frame of your car. If there's a breakaway while you're flat towing, the cables will help hold your towed vehicle behind your RV and prevent a collision or an accident.

Hey, everyone. Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Blue Ox permanent base plate safety cables. So the whole reason that you'd want to use something like this, well, there's a couple reasons really. One of 'em being as a backup device in the event of an unlikely disconnect. The way that these are gonna work, we have some installed here on our Ram today, they're going to connect to the base plate, all right, using the D-link.
And they give you four of these D-links. You might need to use one, might need to use all four. It kind of just depends. But they'll connect to the base plate and then wrap around the frame. So, you know, if something we're to happen and you come disconnected while you're flat towing, if the base plate is compromised, these are still going to be connected to the frame and keep everything paired together.
The majority of the time, if you have a Blue Ox base plate, it's going to come included with these. But if you're someone that has a base plate made by a different manufacturer and they didn't give you these and you'd rather have 'em as a safety precaution, that's where these would come into play. But another really popular reason people use these is to actually provide your tow bar safety cables with a place to connect to. So what I mean by that, some of the base plates are more of a universal-type design. And you see this a lot on Jeeps that are being flat-towed with aftermarket bumpers and they have just the little connections there where the tow bar goes right to, and those styles will whack this part, right That comes off of your base plate.
And what this is for, the opening, is for your tow bar safety cables to connect to, right And keep everything paired together. Well, if you don't have a connection or an opening like this on your base plate, then where are you gonna hook up your tow bar safety cables And that's where these would come in. So like I said, being that these wrap around the frame, you could always kind of bring these up to the front of your vehicle like this and then be able to attach your tow bar safety cable to those openings. There are two different variations of these, some that are gonna be rated for 10,000 pounds and then the other one's rated for 7,500 pounds. Choose whichever one is gonna best suit your application.
And they're gonna be 36 inches long in length. So more than enough to wrap around, you know, your frame and run 'em up to where you need to get 'em. As far as the quality is concerned, Blue Ox makes good parts. These are made from aircraft-grade steel, and there's a coating on these, all right And it's really thick coating, kind of a plastic, soft plastic or a hard rubber. And so you can still bend them around and move 'em. And with that coating on there, you know, you're not gonna have to worry about it scratching up anything. Or if it does happen to, you know, move around a little bit, that coating's gonna prevent it from making noise. Which does bring me to my next point, something that I like to do. If your setup is like this and there is any play in that cable, I like to come back with some zip ties and just kind of cinch everything up tight. That way you can eliminate any potential rattling that may occur when you're going down the road. Being that these are going to be that permanent solution and stay with the vehicle, being that they're wrapped around the frame, if you're someone that's looking for the safety cables that'll actually connect from the back of your motor home to the front of your vehicle, we carry a ton of different variations of those. But other than that, at the end of the day, not really a whole lot to these. You know, they're gonna be able to provide you with a way to hook up your tow bar safety cables if your base plate don't have that attachment point, or use these as a secondary backup device, you know, fail safe to keep everything paired together in the event something happens. But with all that in mind, I think that'll about do it for our look at of the Blue Ox permanent safety cables.
OUICK SERVICE
Nice quality. Easy to install. Flexible
Seems like it will do what i need it to do to safely tow my jeep
Received in good condition and performed as expected.
Very stout cables, no rust or problems after a year of use.
This is very well made and the coating covering the cable is very tough. The connectors are much bigger than you may realize but are also very well made and work smoothly. I dont think you will be dissapointed.
Great products, great prices, I qualified for the free shipping and it was still very fast. Thanks!
This product worked great. Didn't have a place to connect the safety cables. Wrapped these around the frame at the bumper.
Exactly what I was looking for. It was difficult to find shorter cables rated for my trailer but etrailer had them. Shipping got delayed in route by the carrier and etrailer was quick to notify me. Couldn't ask for better service on this order.
I ordered the wrong cables to start with. I talked with Josh and had an easy return process.
Yup, they are steel cables and at one year they have not rusted in half. Well, ok, they have not rusted at all even at the point where I let one rub on the frame and it chewed an away some of the coating. Good cables which will last as long as I need. I actually moved them from the wrangler i originally installed them on to our new maverick to tow that.
Cables are what I expected which are the same as what came with my base plate for our 2014 Ford Focus. Had to order these because no cables came with my base plate for our 2000 Cavalier Z24 Convertible when I purchase that base plate several years ago. Seems that then cables did not come standard with base plate. I give this a low rating because not allowed to discuss what is listed as not APPROPRIATE for the review.
Great Safety cables. Very good quality and etrailer always has good prices and their service, support and follow-up is second to none in my opinion. I'm still using the cables after a year and they look good as new. Thank you etrailer.

Working out great!
Just received the products I ordered. Both items look excellent. I ordered the RoadMaster High-Low 6" Drop Hitch and the Blue Ox Safety Cables.

The Blue Ox Safety Cables are excellent quality.
The cable assemblies are well made and a fair price given the quality of the hardware the strength of the splices.
Great product and shipped fast too! etrailer is the best.
Heavily constructed, should easily provide protection for our 2016 Lincoln MKX.
Cables worked like they should. Well made and fast delivery.
